Work / The BRITs 2026 – Broadcast Media Campaign

The Brief

In 2026 The BRIT Awards moved to Manchester, this was the first time in its 48-year history that the awards had been held outside London. The brief was to support and showcase the city and ensure that Manchester felt ownership of the BRITs from announcement right through to the night itself.

What We Did

The announcement of the move to Manchester took place at Co-op Live, with the BRITs chair, leader of Manchester City Council, Bev Craig and Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham all in attendance. Both national and regional news crews travelled to Manchester to speak to the key Manchester spokespeople which ensured the city was at the centre of the announcement. We briefed regional media well in advance, so they felt a part of the BRITs right from the start.

The commitment to Manchester was further enhanced with the 2026 BRIT Awards Trophy Designer announcement – Manchester born and bred Matthew Williamson. Kicking off with an exclusive appearance on BBC Breakfast and BBC Radio Manchester in Media City. He then took part in a Q & A for design students at the University of Manchester which was also attended by several national and regional news crews.

A dual nominations launch took place at Manchester’s Co-op Live and London’s Outernet. We worked closely with key Manchester spokespeople including Bev Craig and Andy Burnham who conveyed their passion for the music heritage and future of the city via interviews with attending news crews ensuring Manchester was at the heart of the nominations announcement.

The importance of music business, education and development in the city was celebrated with a citywide programme of cultural activity which included a Stanley Chow Art Trail, a Brian Cannon exhibition and a fringe lab programme of events and education. Regional and national media embraced this activity with the regional media feeling a real sense of ownership.

The week of the awards we invited several outlets including Global, Bauer, ITV and BBC to broadcast shows live from the Co-op, this really drove excitement for the ceremony and led to a huge buzz around the city.

The broadcast campaign contributed to what became the most successful BRIT Awards to date. By ensuring Manchester was at the centre and forefront of the campaign from the very beginning the city truly embraced the BRITs as did the media like never before and this was reflected throughout the coverage.
